History and taste of Méjean

For the Easter holidays, every Wednesday at 3 p.m.
(duration 2 hours). This visit allows you to combine knowledge and flavor.
“Linking the history of the Causse of yesterday to its reality today” ... This is what we offer you through this combined experience. Sheep's milk already provided a living for our ancestors on the Causse Méjean and this "tradition" continues today at the Fromagerie. A great opportunity to discover this beautiful rural history and its evolution over the centuries.
This combo tour includes in Hyelzas:
- The independent visit to the Ferme Caussenarde d'Autreviens (visit at your own pace of the farmhouse with a documented plan adapted to each generation as well as the discovery game for children).
- A tasting led by a gourmet guide at the Fromagerie le Fédou (explanations on cheeses and their different productions, tasting of different cheeses).
-The possibility at your convenience to freely attend the sheep milking at 5:15 p.m. at Ferme Armand et Marie (this possibility is only offered from the beginning of April to the end of August, the sheep milking period).
The entire combined visit lasts 2 hours ( the milking for those who wish).

Of Sheep and Men
From June 27 to September 6, 2024, Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (duration 3h30). This visit really constitutes the most complete and fun approach to the agropastoralism of the Causses and the Cévennes.
“Know where we come from to know where we are going” … This sentence from Armand Pratlong alone sums up this combined service born 6 years ago from 2 major observations:
- Armand and Marie left their descendants in the hamlet of Hyelzas important and significant elements to talk about life on the Causse Méjean (The Caussenarde Farm of the past which they had transformed into rural life museum, the Ferme d'Aujourd'hui which they operated, the Cheese Factory where they had created the first sheep's milk cheese). Members of our family continue to work at these 3 locations today,
- The Causses and the Cévennes are listed in the Unesco World Heritage for their agropastoralism. Our family had everything to explain this inscription, from the agropastoralism of yesterday to the agropastoralism of today, right down to the finished product which is the cheese.
This combo tour includes in Hyelzas:
- The independent visit to the Ferme Caussenarde d'Autreviens (visit at your own pace of the farmhouse with a documented plan adapted to each generation as well as the discovery game for children).
- The visit accompanied by Armand and Marie Organic Farm (production of sheep's milk, sheep's milk ice cream, milling cereals for the Moulin de la Borie, Angus meat). At the end of this visit, you will be offered a small tasting of sheep's milk ice cream.
- A tasting led by a gourmet guide at the Fromagerie le Fédou (explanations on cheeses and their different productions, tasting of different cheeses).

The entire combined tour lasts 3h30, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday from June 27 to September 6.

From June 24 to September 8 every day.
Travel at your own pace between Earth and Water, this is the promise of this combined service which resembles our region, authentic, made of the history of the inhabitants of the Causses without water and the inhabitants of Gorges who on the contrary consider the River Tarn as a member of their family in its own right.
This combined service is experienced at your rhythm, without time constraints either on land or on water.
She understands :
- At Soulio, a canoe trip 10 km which passes through the straits (the narrowest part of the Gorges du Tarn) and arrives at the majestic Cirque des Baumes
- At the Ferme Caussenarde d'Autreviens, an independent visit with a documented plan adapted to each generation as well as the discovery game for kids.
This service is particularly suitable for all those who like to combine culture and activities of wilderness.
It can be done in 1 or 2 days according to your wishes and possibilities. We will contact you by telephone after your online reservation to define with you the terms that suit you.
Children must be over 1 meter tall and know swim to go down by canoe.
