Our history

Our history

The story begins in 1640 with the first part of the construction of the Farm (first kitchen, first bedroom, first "agricultural building"). Two extensions were added in the 18th and 19th centuries, thus shaping the farmhouse as we know it today. In 1948, Irma Julie, Marie's grandmother dies. The Farm will no longer be inhabited.

In 1973, Marie and Armand PRATLONG choose, with the support of members of the Méjean Association, to introduce as many people as possible to the Caussenard heritage through the old farm of Marie's family. The Caussenarde Farm of Yesteryear becomes a Museum of Rural Life.

Armand and Marie died in 2015, but the adventure continues. Their children and grandchildren bring to life this heritage and these traditions, now universally recognized by the inclusion of the Causses and the Cévennes as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

After this rich year 2023 where we celebrated our fifty years of opening to the public, our family is continuing this epic journey with as much enthusiasm as ever! We are therefore waiting for you from March 30 to November 2, 2024!
